(The Hill) – Former Vice President Al Gore says he's given up hope that President Trump will "come to his senses" and act on climate issues.

Gore on Monday night told "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert that his hopes about Trump were wrong.

"I went to Trump Tower after the election," said Gore, who was on the show to promote his new documentary, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.

Al Gore: ‘I was wrong’ on Trump

Gore was quickly made the brunt of endless jokes, straw arguments and ad hominem attacks. "Attack the messenger" is pretty common, but because he is rich, travels extensively and became a world spokesman for climate change advocacy, he remains widely ignored by the idiotic deniers.

Unfortunately, nothing has changed under the Idiot In Chief. Trump's presidency is going to be a disaster for the human race. I have not seen a single positive thing occur to date under Trump. But there have been innumerable setbacks, lies, deceptions, distortions and false promises, along with all the empty, utterly ridiculous rhetoric Trump is known for.

Some say "we get what we deserve" and that is true. The (s)Election went to an idiot. A pretty strong indication of what has also occurred within this country - the swing to the so-called "right" by religious fundamentalists, right-wing (the "selfish wing") extremists, and the dumbed-down brainwashed, none of which can take any real interest in self-improvement, awareness, education, personal growth and maturity.

Hoping for this group to finally grow up and grasp the real world and climate change reality is simply fantasy. We'll need to dismantle their false belief systems first.
