(ABC) – A new report by the Climate Council of Australia says it would have been "virtually impossible" for 2013 to be the hottest year in the country's record without man-made emissions in the atmosphere.

The independently-funded group used new modelling to look at the odds of extreme heat events occurring, with and without man-made emissions.

A computer simulation of the atmosphere showed that climate change tripled the odds that the heatwaves of 2012/2013 would occur as frequently as they did and doubled the odds that they would be as intense as they were.

More than 123 temperature records were broken over that summer.

Professor Will Steffen said the record temperatures of 2013 were caused by man-made emissions.

"What were the odds of that happening without the human carbon pollution, and what were the odds with human carbon pollution? The answer is quite striking," he said.

"The answer is that year, 2013, being the hottest year in Australia ever, was virtually impossible without human emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

"That's conclusive evidence in my view that human driven emission of greenhouse gases were the primary cause of 2013 being the hottest year on record.

"In other words, it wouldn't have happened without them."

The report also looked at heatwaves in Australia and found they were becoming longer, hotter, and occurring more frequently.

Professor Steffen said it highlighted the importance of taking action to reduce emissions.

"If we don't get on top of this, what you consider an extreme heat event now would be a normal summer by the middle of the century," he said.

By 2090 when my grandkids are around, that's going to be a cool summer.

"You don't want to live in that world." [more]

I don't want to live in the world that is coming, but because of my fellow idiotic unbelieving "denialist" humans, I will. Or I will try to. But it angers me very deeply that so many of my fellow species are so incredibly stupid and unwilling to face facts and reality.

I just read where the Pope "blames the Devil" for war and jealousy. It is this sort of superstitious stupidity being taught from pulpits and politics that leads humans to refuse to be responsible for their OWN behavior and actions.

WE DID THIS. WE CAUSED THIS. THIS IS OUR FAULT. And the longer we pretend it's not our responsibility, then the WORSE IT WILL GET.

Talk about cosmic "karma". Humans refuse to acknowledge their own part in what goes wrong - so the "gods" decide, "Ok, let's just stand back and see how long it will take before they wise up" (this explains the total silence from heaven by the way).

Centuries go by - they never wise up, but in the meanwhile, they discover steam, oil, uranium, fiat money and much more. At no time however, did they wise up and admit to any of their wrong-doing. The "gods" remain silent as promised...

So we come to the Anthropocene, the end of the age of humans, who all die and go extinct along with everything else because they have destroyed the biosphere through their screwing around and massive levels of pollution and destruction. The "gods" still remain silent...

Well, of course they do. We invented the gods too, every last one of them. They're no more real then the ridiculous "it's not our fault" attitude taken by my fellow idiot humans. OF COURSE IT IS ALL OUR FAULT - THERE IS NO ONE ELSE HERE BUT US TO BLAME.

Humans will wipe themselves out because of STUPIDITY and SUPERSTITION. Won't be the first time either - but this time, it will be EXTINCTION because nothing can survive on a non-habitable planet.

Idiot humans are going to get exactly what they embraced.
